During this time, Smith says he'll be single and ready to mingle. "I kind of decided a few months ago that I need to have a little bit of a break," he said on Friday's Ellen DeGeneres Show. "Because my music is so personal and I need to live my life."
The "Writing's On the Wall" singer added, "I basically need to kiss some more boys so I can write some songs."
In a recent interview with ET, Smith was quite candid about his love life.
"Before I'd think I'd want it to be more romantic, but I just want to hang out now," he shared. "That's kind of it, just hang out."

Smith admitted that being famous can make dating more difficult because "you maybe don't know people's intentions."
"At the same time I have never had a boyfriend in my life," he added. "So I don't know any different. So that's kind of a blessing I guess."
