The 39-year-old Scream Queens actor
recently appeared on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live
, where he revealed that his brutal diss actually helped mend their relationship. "Happy abandonment day... @katehudson," he Instagammed in June alongside a throwback picture of Bill with him and his younger sister, Kate Hudson.
"It actually started a dialogue, and I hadn't talked to my father in 12 years," Oliver explained to host Andy Cohen. "And my dark, sort of crazy sense of humor, I posted this happy abandonment day thing which everyone went crazy about and I was just trying to be funny."
Oliver revealed that the two are actually on good terms now.
"At the end of the day, it was a good thing," he said. "We're communicating now. [I] had an amazing three-hour conversation with him, and we're texting, trying to see each other. So we might be mending something."
When asked if Kate was also mending her relationship with Bill -- the 36-year-old actress has slammed Bill before, telling Vanity Fair in 2000, "[Bill] doesn't know me from a hole in the wall" -- Oliver was much more vague.
"I say to them now, 'I set you free,'" Bill said. "I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own."
"I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name," he added. "They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth. ... I don't want to see either of my eldest children ever again. It's over."
Clearly, it's never too late to bury the hatchet.
"I have an actual paternal instinct, because I've had three kids, so when I'm working with, you know, Skyler [Samuels], who plays my daughter, there's something that definitely kicks in there, and it's fun to play," he said. "It's new, it's different for me."
