It’s been one year since Boyd Holbrook split from girlfriend Elizabeth Olsen, but the heartbreak is still palpable.
Part of the pain came from unfortunate timing, as the day Olsen decided to call it quits in October 2014 ended up being one of the worst 24 hours ever for the Narcos star.
"On the same day that my best friend died, I got a call from my girl to tell me it was over," Holbrook revealed.
The friend was New York-based photographer David Armstrong, who Holbrook says “was the first person in my life to encourage me.”
“He told me to do everything I wanted to do,” the 34-year-old actor added. “No one had ever told me that before. He was a very important figure in my life.”
It took months for Holbrook to deal with the two life-changing situations. Both cause him to turn his focus towards work and traveling -- he left the apartment he shared with Olsen in Brooklyn, moved to Upstate New York and road his motorcycle through Chile.
"I was consumed with own personal depression, my own personal scenario at the time," he explained.
Holbrook and Olsen, 26, were reportedly engaged in March 2014, though they never publicly confirmed the news. They first met on the set of the 2013 movie, Very Good Girls.
Since the split, Olsen has been rumored to be dating her 34-year-old I Saw the Light co-star, Tom Hiddleston.
The two certainly have an undeniable chemistry -- watch the emotional trailer for their upcoming movie below.
