After a rough 2015, Kristin Cavallari is starting fresh in the new year.

On Friday, The Hills alum shared a photo of herself and her husband, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, on Instagram. Her caption was a bittersweet goodbye note to 2015.

"Last night was the second time I've put makeup on in over 5 weeks and left the house (besides the grocery store and taking Cam to school). Even though I shed a few tears, it was a really nice night and felt good to be out," she wrote. "2015 brought my sweet, baby girl but it also took my brother's life. Hoping for no extreme highs and lows this year. Happy new year, everyone."

The 28-year-old shoe designer -- who is also mom to two boys, 3-year-old Camden and 19-month-old Jaxon -- welcomed her daughter, Saylor James, on Nov. 23. Tragedy struck just four days later -- her older brother, Michael Cavallari, went missing on Nov. 27 and was found dead in Grand County, Utah, on Dec. 10. Officials reported his cause of death as prolonged exposure to the elements.
