Thandie Newton Gets Apology From Starbucks After Tweeting About Offensive Display
Starbucks actually had reason to apologize this time.
Brouhaha over the coffee company’s red holiday cups may have blown over, but earlier this week, Thandie Newton criticized a central London location over an offensive display used to shill Colombian beans.
“Seriously @Starbucks?” the Mission: Impossible actress tweeted. “At the counter - Loin cloth and Safari hat on a black child. Happy New Year circa 19th century”

Starbucks quickly responded to Newton’s tweet, saying they were “very concerned” to learn of the display and couldn’t apologize enough.

As we became aware of the offense, we immediately removed the figure from our store. We aim to provide an inclusive environment for all customers and communities in which we serve, and we are working with our partners (employees) to avoid similar incidents from happening in the future. We apologize for the offense caused.”
