When DC and Warner Bros. announced that they were bringing The Flash to the big screen, some fans thought the part might be played by Grant Gustin, who portrays the speedster -- and his real-life alter ego Barry Allen -- on The CW show about the fast-paced superhero.

While the role ultimately went to Perks of Being a Wallflower star Ezra Miller, Gustin spoke out on Twitter on Thursday to dispel any rumors that there is bad blood between the two actors.

“I hate having to explain myself, I don’t think it’s necessary most of the time. Especially on the internet,” Gustin, 26, wrote on a screenshot note. “I’m going to here because there are too many people that are saying things about me that aren’t true.”

Gustin’s tweet asked fans to “stop putting words in my mouth” regarding Miller, who will play The Flash first in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, then in a 2018 Flash-centric movie. He will also reprise his role in the two-part Justice League movies, slated for 2017 and 2019.

“I fully support Ezra Miller as Barry Allen and the Flash on the feature side of DC,” Gustin wrote, adding that while he’s never met Miller, he finds him to be a “fantastic and interesting” actor. “Would I have liked to play Barry Allen in a film? Sure. I love this character and it has changed my life and making movies and TV is something I hope to be fortunate enough to so for the rest of my life.”

From Gustin’s perspective, the drama started when he “liked” some tweets from fans that “expressed their support of me and said they would’ve enjoyed seeing me in the movie.”

“Nothing of anyone ‘bashing’ Ezra,” the actor added. “I don’t condone that type of behavior (especially on the Internet,) and I definitely don’t partake. I can’t wait to see all of the DC movies that are slated for the upcoming years. I am a fan and it will be awesome.”

For his part, Miller says the admiration goes both ways. The 23-year-old actor has said he is a big fan of both Gustin and The CW's Flash series.

“I think it’s awesome,” he told MTV News in July. “C’mon, we’re The Flash. It’s parallel universes! Grant Gustin is The Flash and I’m The Flash…We’re gonna have a race, it’s gonna be dope!”
