We need to talk about "We Don't Talk Anymore."

The highly anticipated Charlie Puth-Selena Gomez duet has finally been released -- and only ET got the crazy backstory on the track straight from Puth himself. Listen below!

"She came over and I literally set the mic up in a closet," Charlie told ET with a laugh. "So, I can say that I've vocal produced Selena Gomez while she's in a closet recording. It was, like, the most ghetto set-up ever, but I think it added to the quaintness of the record. She did a really good job, too."

The pair only recently gave us our first taste of the track -- which will be featured on Charlie's upcoming debut album, Nine Track Mind, out Jan. 29 -- with an adorable lip-syncing video from the back of a car.

Unsurprisingly, the super-cute video prompted fans to wonder whether these two were more than friends. Selena straight up denied it, telling E! News, "We're not [dating,] that's for sure," while Charlie opened up about his relationship status with ET.

"Every time I'm out with a girl, they're like, 'He's dating her!' Like, they want me to be paired with somebody so badly, which is funny," he said. "But no, I'm just letting people know that I'm not shallow in that I would only date celebrities. It's not really about that. No, I'm just chilling right now! I just finished the album and I'm going on tour."

Charlie did get candid about what he's looking for in a girlfriend -- when he can find the time for dating!

"I like a girl who makes me laugh because I feel like I'm always like trying too hard to make her laugh," he confessed. "But if she can actually make me laugh like, 'Oh God! That was a really funny joke,' and she's confident -- she's kind of swag. This is going to sound weird, but I almost prefer her not to be so available all the time, it keeps me on my toes a little bit. ... Don't do that all the time! If I get to know you, you can quit that, but in the beginning, maybe."

"We Don't Talk Anymore" isn't an official single quite yet -- Charlie is busy promoting Nine Track Mind's current single, "One Call Away" -- but he did let slip that a music video for the former might be in the works.

"[Selena] has like all these music video ideas in her head of what the music -- I kind of just blew it, I guess -- I guess there maybe will be a music video in the future. ET exclusive! There you go!" he teased. "She has all the ideas for what the video could be and she Snapchats them. I checked my phone, I was like, 'Where's my phone?' And I saw her looking all cute and everything. I saw seven Snapchats that I didn't make, but I was happy they were there."

After Charlie's steamy "Marvin Gaye" lip-lock with Meghan Trainor (whom he's also denied dating), we can't help but wonder what kind of surprises he and Selena would have in store! See what he said about that surprising moment with Meghan in the video below.
