See One Direction's Surprise Cameo on 'American Idol'

One Direction certainly knows a thing or two about reality show success.

The X Factor UK alumni (unknowingly) made a surprise cameo on Wednesday night's episode of American Idol, when this season's first batch of Hollywood Week survivors stumbled upon the band's Jimmy Kimmel Live sound check on Hollywood Boulevard.

"This could literally be us," gushed one Idol hopeful. "That stage right there, is us."

Kimmel also appeared during the episode, saying hello to host Ryan Seacrest and offering his well wishes for the iconic series' farewell season. "I hope this is the best season yet," he told Seacrest with a smirk.

One Direction performed on JKL back in November, and joked about the, ahem, perks of performing on the storied street.

"Will this be the dirtiest place you've ever performed?" Kimmel asked the boys.

"Well, there's more drunk superheroes than anywhere else," Niall Horan (accurately) quipped.

"They're kinda scary," added Liam Payne. "I walked past Batman one time, and he kinda jumped at me."

Meanwhile, on the Idol stage, there were several standout performances as judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. had the unenviable task of cutting the list of 190 hopefuls down to 40.
