Elizabeth Banks Will Play Rita Repulsa in the 'Power Rangers' Reboot aka Best. Casting. Ever.
By John Boone
We’re not sure why Elizabeth Banks is doing this, but we're so happy she is!!!
The Pitch Perfect star announced on Tuesday that she has joined the cast of the Power Rangers reboot as the villainous Rita Repulsa. "After 10,000 years, I'm free! It's time to conquer Earth!!" Banks tweeted.
We're not being hyperbolic when we say this is the Best. Casting. Ever.
If you're not versed on your Rangers lore, Rita Repulsa is an evil humanoid alien sorceress who basically just wants to take over the planet, as one does. The role was made iconic by Machiko Soga, but we have complete faith that Banks will be able to pull off Rita's signature shriek. Oh, and Rita breathes fire.
Honestly, it's going to be the GIFt that keeps on giving.
Banks joins R.J. Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as the Blue Ranger, Becky G. (pop star) as the Yellow Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, and Naomi Scott (The Martian) as the Pink Ranger.
Now, take a kick-ass #TBT to 1995, where ET sat down with the original cast of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers before their first movie premiered.
