After news broke that character actor, George Gaynes, died on Monday at age 98
, Soleil Moon Frye sent out heartfelt messages in remembrance of her Punky Brewster
Gaynes played the grumpy foster parent, Henry Warnimont, who takes in Punky Brewster (Moon Frye) after she and her dog, Brandon, are abandoned by her mother in a supermarket. The showed aired from 1984 to 1988.
"The universe just gained a gigantic star. You will be in my heart and soul always and forever," Moon Frye tweeted Tuesday night. "Your little Punky. RIP George Gaynes."
The 39-year-old actress also shared a sweet photo on Instagram of her and Gaynes during their time on Punky Brewster. "When I reflect on some of the most joyous moments in my life, they were shared with this incredible man," she wrote. "Love to your family."
In addition to Punky Brewster, Gaynes is also known for his role in seven Police Academy films. Other memorable movie roles include Tootsie, The Way We Were, Vanya on 42nd Street and Wag the Dog.
He was also well-respected for his storied career as a Broadway performer, starring in numerous musical comedies. Additionally, he performed as an operatic baritone singer.
Gaynes died at his daughter's home in North Bend, Washington, according to The New York Times
. He is survived by his wife, Allyn Ann McLerie, and his daughter, Iya Gaynes Falcone Brown, as well as one granddaughter and two great granddaughters.
