This was the couple’s second go-round at marriage. Musk and Riley were first wed in 2010 and announced their original divorce in 2012, only to remarry in July 2013.

The 44-year-old inventor and the 30-year-old Inception actress are "ending their marriage amicably," according to a joint statement their reps gave ET, and the petition for divorce was filed by Riley "with mutual consent."

The statement noted that the couple had been living separately for the past six months but that Musk and Riley "continue to see each other occasionally as friends."

Musk, who co-founded PayPal and is the CEO of Tesla Motors, was previously married to Canadian author Justine Musk, with whom he shares five sons.
