"Mom likes [sentimental], meaningful things," Hudson explained to ET at a screening of her new film, Mother's Day, at the Metrograph theater in New York City on Thursday.
"Really, just all of us being together makes all of us happy," Hudson added.
Before Mother's Day (the holiday, not the movie) rolls around on May 8, Hudson will be attending this year's luxurious Met Gala, taking place Monday.
While she couldn't give any hints as to who she'd be wearing, she admitted she was excited for the big day, and teased that whatever she chose to wear would likely be "not subtle."
Hudson also addressed the theme for this year's Met Gala -- "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology" -- calling it "an interesting, fun theme."
Taylor Swift is set to co-chair this year's black tie event and Hudson had nothing but praise for the 1989 singer. "She's the best," Hudson gushed. "She's great at that kind of thing, she'll be awesome."
Mother's Day opens in theaters on Friday.
