BET Awards Promise a Better Prince Tribute Than BBMAs With Super Shady Promo

After Madonna (and Stevie Wonder)'s memorial to the music icon, the BET Awards came out swinging with an ad for its own upcoming tribute.

Minutes after Madonna donned a purple suit (and enlisted Stevie Wonder) for a somber tribute to Prince during the Billboard Music Awards, BET threw some major shade with a tweet promoting its own awards show which will also feature a tribute to the late music legend.

The 15-second promo, which featured the sound of rain and Prince's iconic symbol, concluded with the following message, "Yeah, we saw that. Don't worry. We got you," appearing across the bottom. The clip was posted almost immediately after Madonna's performance finished.

Madonna's stylish memorial to the Purple Rain star kicked off with an emotional introduction from Questlove. The Material Girl then took center stage wearing a purple suit -- reminiscent of one of Prince's most iconic ensembles -- and sitting on a giant purple throne.

Madonna began the tribute with an emotional rendition of "Nothing Compares 2 U," and was then joined onstage by Steve Wonder for a well-received performance of "Purple Rain."

BET has not announced what its tribute to Prince will include or which artists will participate, but it seems the network is confident the awards show will have a more fitting memorial than what the BBMAs had to offer.

The BET Awards air June 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT on BET.
