Gord Downie, lead singer for The Tragically Hip, has terminal brain cancer.
"He's endured a lot of difficult times, and he has been fighting hard," the band said in a statement. "In privacy along with his family, and through all of this, we've been standing by him."
The band went on to confirm that they will continue to perform as a group through Downie's illness.
"After 30-some years together as The Tragically Hip, thousands of shows and hundreds of tours ... we've decided to do another one," they announced. "This feels like the right thing to do now, for Gord, and for all of us."
Dates for the tour are expected to be announced within the week.
Despite never achieving mainstream success in the U.S., The Tragically Hip have had many hits in Canada with nine of their albums reaching No. 1.
