"Pays to have a thick skull when an iron bar falls on your #head!!" Purcell captioned a selfie of his bruised face. "Busting it open severely, also broke my nose in two places."

Making light of the accident, he added, "Haha. I got a free nose job out of it. Stoked to be alive. All good."

The Aussie actor also said he got 100 stitches in his head.

According to our source, the actor was "immediately taken to the hospital for treatment" following the incident. "Doc said I have an unusually tough tissue fiber that's what saved me apparently," Purcell continued. "Thank god for my #Viking heritage hahaha!!!"

"We are happy to report that he is in great spirits and is expected to make a full recovery," Fox said in statement to ET on Friday. "He wanted us to express his appreciation to the fans around the world who have expressed their concern and support, and to reassure them that he will be back at work very soon."
