Luke Bryan is getting ready to hit the big 4-0 next month and the country singer says he's not really looking forward to the milestone birthday.
"I wouldn't say I'm particularly excited about it," Bryan joked with ET Canada recently. "30 hit me pretty hard, 40 will hit me pretty hard [too]."
The "Kick the Dust Up" singer will be away from home for his big day on July 17, while he plays a concert in Bangor, Maine on his Kill the Lights Tour. However, Bryan shared that he and his wife, Caroline, still have some fun, laid back plans.
"Caroline has offered me to pick what I want to do for my birthday” Bryan shared. "So we’re probably going to get some friends together and try and go somewhere fishing or something like that."
Turning 40 has the celebrated country crooner thinking about his future, and what's important to him in the years ahead.
"We finally finished my house in Nashville," Bryan said. "[Now] I just want to sit at my piano at the house and write songs and watch my boys swim and play out on the farm."
In terms of his career, Bryan said he just wants to make sure he's "in a good place and havin' fun," and always pushing himself to "try new venues."
"I think the day you don't wanna roll the dice on something or go a little bit outside of your norm, I think that's kinda when you get a little stagnant in this business," he explained. "The main thing for me is just to focus on enjoying [life] and being happy and trying to be a better singer and writer, every day."
One thing that doesn't seem to be in his near future is a collaboration with his friend and fellow country music star, Blake Shelton. According to Bryan, the If I'm Honest singer has been far too busy with his ladylove, Gwen Stefani.
"They seem to be really, really enjoying each other," he said, laughing.
The country star sat down with ET before hosting the Academy of Country Music Awards in March and playfully ribbed his buddy about his new romance.
"I think when you date Blake Shelton ... I just hope it's not affecting her IQ," Bryan joked. "Maybe she's got a good support group around her to keep the positive influences of Blake versus the negative." Check out the video below to hear more.
