Eat, Pray, Love
author Elizabeth Gilbert has revealed that she and her husband, Jose Nunes, are separating.

"Because I have shared details of my private life with you all so intimately over the years, I feel the need to share with you this recent change in my personal life," Gilbert wrote in a Facebook post on Friday. "I am separating from the man whom many of you know as 'Felipe' — the man whom I fell in love with at the end of the EAT PRAY LOVE journey. He has been my dear companion for over 12 years, and they have been wonderful years. Our split is very amicable. Our reasons are very personal."

The 46-year-old best-selling author asked for privacy as she endures this new "transition."

"In my heart, I know that you will do so, because I trust that you understand how this is a story that I am living — not a story that I am telling," she continued before thanking fans for their "love" and "kindness" during this tough time.

"Hold us in your thoughts," added Gilbert. "And I hope you will understand and forgive me if I am a bit absent from social media during this sensitive moment."

Gilbert closed the post with a link to "Failing and Falling," a poem she says has been helping her out. "Perhaps it will help some of you also," she wrote.

As chronicled in Eat, Pray, Love, Gilbert met Nunes on the tail end of her journey through Italy, India, and Bali. The couple tied the knot in 2007.

Julia Roberts starred as Gilbert in the 2010 film adaptation of the book, which was directed by Ryan Murphy.
