The 'Hands to Myself' singer shares her thoughts on reaching the impressive milestone.
Selena Gomez may not put too much thought into what she posts, but the 23-year-old pop star reigns as the most followed person on Instagram.
"It comes in a moment when I capture something happening, and I go, 'Oh, that would be great for Instagram. I should post it,'" Gomez, who won the title in March with 69 million followers at the time, revealed during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I know it's boring, but that's genuinely what I do."
Although she said it was never her "goal to be the most followed person," the popular app is her "favorite social platform." (Gomez is followed closely behind by her BFF, Taylor Swift, with 85.3 million followers, and her famous ex, Justin Bieber, with 74.7 million followers.)
"I'm not sure there's a method to my madness," Gomez added. "I try to find a good balance of just being 100 percent myself and knowing when to post a really good selfie with good lighting."

Her most popular photo to date is a pic of herself rocking a red-hot top with matching acrylic nails, while sipping on Coca-Cola from a striped straw.
"When your lyrics are on the bottle," she captioned the snap, which has received over four million likes since it was posted on June 25. The bottle features lyrics from her "Me & The Rhythm" track off her Revival album, as part of the brand's "Share a Coke and a Song" summer campaign.
The snapshot is currently the most-liked pic of all-time on the photo sharing app. The record was previously held by Bieber, who shared a steamy throwback pic of the two sharing a smooch. Since March 19, it's received 3.7 million likes.

If you're following Gomez and have realized that her recent photos are a bit more professional-looking as of late, your eyes aren't fooling you. The brunette beauty is currently traveling the country as part of her Revival tour, and has utilized her tour photographer to take Instagram-worthy, behind-the-scenes shots of her life both on and off the stage.
"I've created this bond with him, so it's super organic when he takes photos," she admitted, specifically referencing a pic of her sitting on a shopping cart inside of a supermarket in Canada. "We were in the grocery store, all shopping for the bus, and I always eat when I shop. I remember one of the comments [on that photo] said, 'I cannot believe she rented out the grocery store for a photo shoot,' and I died laughing. I was like, 'Well, I didn't.'"

Earlier this month, Gomez made a tour stop at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where a slew of Hollywood A-listers stepped out to show their support, including her former Disney colleagues Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale.
