Idina Menzel to Take on Bette Midler's Role in TV Remake of Garry Marshall's 'Beaches'

Idina Menzel is bringing a Garry Marshall classic to the small screen!

The Frozen star is set to take over the role of CC, originated by Bette Midler, in a Lifetime TV remake of Marshall's 1988 film, Beaches, it was announced on Thursday. And, yes, she'll be lending her stellar voice to new versions of the iconic songs, "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "The Glory of Love."

According to reports, Menzel will also record additional new songs for the remake. No word yet on which actress will share the screen with Menzel, as CC’s friend Hillary (played by Barbara Hersey in the original) has yet to be cast.

The news comes one week after Marshall's death from complications of pneumonia. He was 81. 

Marshall was one of the pillars of Hollywood, in both the world of film and television, creating hit sitcoms and iconic movies. He also founded the Falcon Theatre in Burbank, California.

In the days following his death, Anne Hathaway, Ron Howard, Richard Gereand Kate Hudson were among the stars to reach out and pay tribute to the beloved Hollywood director.
