4-year-old Phoenix got his ears pierced, and according to Michaels, it was all his idea!

"The little man works on his selfie skills," Michaels captioned a cute pic of her son earlier this month. "And yes, he got his ears pierced."

"His sister got hers pierced and he wanted his done. I wasn't about to say 'That's for girls,'" she explained.

While some critiqued Michaels' choice to let her son follow in the footsteps of his big sis, Lukensia, 6, most comments on Instagram praised the former Biggest Loser trainer.

"Cool! I'm trying to be more aware too with gender stereotypes when I talk to my kids," one follower wrote.

"Good for you @jillianmichaels so sick of gender stereotypes," another added. "All that matters is that he is happy and loved."

While Michaels clearly couldn't be happier with her life now -- she recently proposed to longtime partner Heidi Rhoades -- there was a time she admits she was conflicted about her sexuality.

"I was homophobic, because I obviously didn't know that I was gay," Michaels told ET in January, adding that it was the imagery of bisexuality in Madonna's "Justify My Love" music video that helped her become more accepting.

"When she did that, it was like, 'OK, that's not gross or disgusting,'" she explained. "It kind of allowed me to figure out who I was."
