And your new Miss America is… Miss Arkansas, Savvy Shields!
Despite getting cut off for going over time during her question and answer portion while fielding a prompt on what she thinks about Hillary Clinton, the 21-year-old college student still took home the crown.
Shields, who studies fine arts at the University of Arkansas, was overcome with emotion after being declared the new Miss America, while now-former Miss America Betty Cantrell ceremonially placed the coveted crown on her head, thus ceremonially transferring the title.
While waiting alongside three of her fellow hopefuls before the big announcement was made, Shields was beaming as she praised the other competitors.
"Every single girl here would do an amazing job as Miss America," Shields said.
For winning, Shields is guaranteed a six-figure salary and paid expenses during her year-long reign, as well as a $50,000 scholarship and an appearance agreement with Dick Clark Productions.
