Step aside, Hugh Grant! James Corden was ready for his close-up as the new British male lead in Bridget Jones’s Baby, and on Wednesday night, The Late Late Show released the comedian’s "audition tape" with star Renee Zellweger.

“This is so exciting. Thank you so much for the opportunity,” Corden gushed to Zellweger. “I love all of the films. I watch them all the time. My wife’s like,‘Turn them off!’ and I’m like, ‘No, I’ll watch what I want!’”

Corden asked if he could improvise the script a bit, using the opportunity to play some famous British characters.

After Bridget tells Corden she’s pregnant, he whips around dressed as the chimney sweep from Mary Poppins and declares, “Blimey, Bridget Jones, I don’t believe me ears!” before doing a jig.

When Zellweger rejects that character, Corden comes back out dressed as Sherlock Holmes.

“I’ve eliminated the impossible and what remains highly improbable is that this baby belongs to another man,” he says.
