The "Private Practice" star dishes to OK! magazine on her ultra-glam "I do's"!
From the romantic proposal to the wedding weekend, KATE WALSH and her new hubby ALEX YOUNG open up to OK! about their dream-come-true nuptials!
"To be Kate Walsh-Young? Suddenly calm," she says in the upcoming issue of OK!, on newsstands Friday, of what it feels like to be married. "We are so happy and blissed out."
But before marriage came love -- and the proposal. "We were at this beautiful restaurant called Gary Danko [in San Francisco]," Alex says. "I had the [NEIL LANE] ring with me. Butterflies are a big theme in Kate's life and in our life. We're sitting there and the appetizer came out in the shape of a butterfly..."
"It was kind of ridiculous, actually," Kate says. "It was a tuna tartare with wasabi antennae!"
Alex then says he began to tell Kate what she meant to him, and Kate admits she had a clue. "I realized, 'Oh! This is it!'" she says.
"I pulled out the ring, and it was just one of those great moments," Alex says.
And after four months of planning, it was finally time to walk down the aisle. "We stayed apart the night before, so he hadn't seen me until that moment," she says. "He was crying, and then I was crying. Thank God for waterproof mascara!"
And the waterworks continued when it was time to say the vows. "I was so nervous," Kate says. "I wanted to go first because Alex is so eloquent and articulate, and I didn't want to be the lame follow-up. I told him everything that was real and true to me. He broke my heart with his words. There wasn't a dry eye in the house."
When it came time for the party, Kate admits there was no way she could have predicted Mother Nature and the heat wave that came over Southern California.
"There was a blackout during the reception dinner, but fortunately there was a backup generator," she says. "It's just a lesson in life: You can only plan so much."
The pair have planned to stay together until death do them part. "It's beyond my imagination," Kate tells OK!. "I couldn't have dreamt Alex up." Adds Alex with a laugh, "She pinches me every once in a while to check that I'm real."
