VALERIE BERTINELLI is starring in a movie with subject matter that hits close to home. The former teen star of "One Day at a Time," who famously dated, married and divorced rock star EDDIE VAN HALEN, plays the aunt of a superstar teen actress (played by multi-platinum recording artist JOJO) in Lifetime TV's "True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet," scheduled to air in 2008.
"Here's this beautiful young starlet, who drinks too much and ends up in rehab," Valerie explains the story. Then she jokes, "That's so unusual. Where did that come from?"
Valerie places some of the blame for today's young stars being out of control on their parents. She recalls that she had a curfew, was not allowed to wear makeup -- except on the set -- until she was 16 years old, and had all the normal boundaries that children should have at that age.
"I also believe to a certain extent they go after it," she adds, not putting all the responsibility on the parents. "I mean, how many times do you have to go to the gas station or Starbucks when you know the paparazzi are out there? Stay home, put your underwear on and take care of your children."
Valerie says, "Here I am judging again, I don't know this girl." But, she adds, "I have an imagination of what [the star in question's] life might be like, because I had a lot happening when I was 25, too."
