There will be two Bettys on "Ugly Betty" when TV icon BETTY WHITE drops by the set for a guest starring role in which she plays herself and runs into none other than Wilhelmina Slater (VANESSA WILLIAMS).
"We're catching a cab, and I start to open the cab door and Vanessa moves in. I say, 'I'm sorry, I was there first.' She just gets in, ignores me completely, slams the door on my hand, pulls away and I fall into the street and wind up in the hospital," Betty tells ET's KEVIN FRAZIER, who is on the set for the filming of the scene.
"Wilhelmina has done some really dastardly things, let's be honest," Vanessa says. "Of course, she doesn't realize how bad it is, and who she is being mean to, but that's just typical of Wilhelmina. She doesn't care who she's offending."
Willie is caught on camera doing the dastardly deed, and Betty decides to milk the feud for all it's worth.
"They have me nice one minute, and not so nice the next, so it's great fun," she admits.
But in real life, the two women made a connection. It turns out that Vanessa's cousin, WINIFRED HERVEY, used to be a writer for "The MARY TYLER MOORE Show," in which, of course, Betty played Sue Ann Nivens.
Betty's fall on the TV series isn't the only accident she has had lately. She had a little spill at her home in Carmel, and thought it might mean she would have to cancel her appearance on the hit ABC series.
"I fell and went into a door jamb," she explains. "I missed the bottom step when I was carrying groceries. I broke my nose and I have two black eyes. The make-up man has made a miracle. When I take my make-up off, there's ol' Black-Eyed Betty."
"Ugly Betty" airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC.
