"Deal or No Deal" gameshow beauties LEYLA and BROOKE went through a life-changing experience when they enlisted in ET's hidden-camera "fat suit" investigation on the streets of New York.
Simple daily tasks such as shopping at a grocery store, fetching a cab and even ice skating became a chore, with certain total strangers making it a demeaning experience as they delivered scornful looks and disrespectful comments to the ladies.
"I have such a great, profound understanding for what millions of Americans go through on a daily basis," Leyla tells our own MARK STEINES. "I had the opportunity to be put in a fat suit just for a day, luckily, but millions of Americans don't have that luxury to just slip out of that."
"How people judged me based on my appearance was very difficult," says Brooke. "I've learned -- and I hope the viewers have as well -- to be more considerate of [the feelings of] overweight people or anyone that's different. Just judging them because they're different says nothing about their character."
Brooke says the transformation for a day was "so scary and so emotional," and Leyla says her "self-confidence totally dropped." Simply seeing herself grow from a size 2 to a size 22, Brooke adds, "Knowing that if I was to let myself go and eat cheeseburgers everyday and not go to the gym [and] that could be me -- it just really hit home."
So, what have they learned? Both women say they are less obsessed with their own current weight after this experience.
"I'm more appreciative of my body and my health and well-being than I was before," says Brooke, "because I now know how hard it is to be overweight, to move and to get up."
"I realized that I shouldn't be so critical of myself," adds Leyla. "We all have insecurities and things that we'd like to change about ourselves, and after going through this experience I learned to be content with myself and not be so judgmental."
And based on their newfound perspective, do the ladies think there should there be a plus-sized model on "Deal or No Deal"?
"There are so many beautiful women who are overweight," Brooke tells Mark. "I think it would be great for America to see that."
