The magical fantasy is joined by such indie films as 'Juno,' 'Atonement,' 'Revolver' and 'Strength and Honor.'
In the middle of the holiday shopping madness, moviegoers have a wide variety of films to choose from, opening in theaters this weekend.
In theaters nationwide, NICOLE KIDMAN and 007 star DANIEL CRAIG headline 'The Golden Compass,' a fantasy adventure that takes place in a parallel world in which witches, warring bears and shape-shifting animals vie for a magical compass. Newcomer DAKOTA BLUE RICHARDS plays Lyra, a 12-year-old girl who sets out on an epic quest to save not only her world, but ours as well.
In limited release, 'Juno' features newcomer ELLEN PAGE as a whip-smart teen whose unplanned pregnancy by her classmate ('Superbad' star MICHAEL CERA) sets her on a search to find the "perfect" parents for her unborn child -- played by JENNIFER GARNER and JASON BATEMAN.
'Pirates of the Caribbean' heroine KEIRA KNIGHTLEY stars in the wartime drama 'Atonement,' based on the critically acclaimed novel. The film follows a young girl (SAOIRSE RONAN) whose overactive imagination becomes dangerous when she accuses her older sister's lover (JAMES McAVOY) of a crime he did not commit.
MADONNA hubby and 'Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels' director GUY RITCHIE is back with 'Revolver,' an intricate crime caper with JASON STATHAM as a gambler/con man looking to exact revenge on RAY LIOTTA, the ruthless drug dealer who put him in prison for seven years.
And 'Strength and Honor' finds MICHAEL MADSEN and screen legend RICHARD CHAMBERLAIN as an ex-boxer and trainer, respectively, who must climb back in the ring to raise money for an operation for Madsen's young son. 'Snatch' and 'X-Men: The Last Stand' star VINNIE JONES is the bare-knuckle brawler Madsen must take on.
