The musician passed away today.
Performer IKE TURNER has died in San Marcos, CA, according to the Associated Press. He was 76.
Turner, who performed with his former wife, megastar TINA TURNER, in the duo IKE & TINA, was born in 1931 in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
The 2007 Grammy winner collaborated with artists including the ROLLING STONES, ELTON JOHN, SANTANA, ROBERTA FLACK, MUDDY WATERS, CHAKA KHAN, NATALIE COLE, BILL COSBY, ELVIS PRESLEY, ERIC CLAPTON, JANIS JOPLIN and MILES DAVIS and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. In 1998, he published an autobiography called 'Takin' Back My Name.'
Turner's name was tarnished by allegations of domestic violence, recorded in Tina Turner's 1986 book, I, Tina which later inspired a film called 'What's Love Got to Do with It.' LAURENCE FISHBURNE was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Ike in that film.
