ET has the latest ...
DAVID LETTERMAN's production company, Worldwide Pants, met with WGA leaders on Friday in hopes of reaching a deal independent of the studios.
The WGA tells ET: "Representatives from Worldwide Pants and the Writers Guild of America, West and the Writers Guild of America, East met today. A lively exchange of information took place. The WGAW and WGAE will not comment further."
The cryptic message gives no indication as to whether the "Late Show with David Letterman" will resume production with a writing staff, despite the ongoing strike.
Earlier reports indicated Letterman hopes to return to the airwaves on January 2, the same date that JAY LENO, CONAN O'BRIEN and JIMMY KIMMEL plan to resume their respective programs, but without their writing staffs.
Earlier in the week, "Late Show" executive producer and CEO of Worldwide Pants ROB BURNETT told ET: "We are willing to agree to the writers' demands that are within our control, so we have no reason to believe that an interim agreement can't be reached with the WGA."
