The Season 5 finalist reveals a tour secret!
"American Idol" alum ELLIOTT YAMIN is chasing the same fame dragon as the rest of the "Idol" cast-offs, but he's actually having some respectable success. His self-titled album recently went gold and his first single, "Wait for You," spent eight weeks at No. 1 on the VH1 "V-Spot" video countdown. Now, the funky white boy with the crazy hair has a Christmas album in Target stores called Sounds of the Season and he just finished touring, where he revealed to us the life-saving device he wears on-stage.
"I couldn't imagine my life without insulin, I wouldn't be around too long," Elliott tells us, showing us the insulin pump he has worn since being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 16.
"It was tough early on," he says. "I had a hard time coping with it."
Now he's hoping to encourage others by being an ambassador for "Inspired by Diabetes," which helps children living with diabetes in developing nations, and urging others to share their experiences with the condition in an essay at inspiredbydiabetes.com. The Eli Lilly Co. will donate funds for each entry that is received.
"Until there's a cure for diabetes, we can all inspire each other," he says.
