Miley Cyrus' concert film is No. 1 in theaters.
It was announced Sunday that 'Hannah Montana & MILEY CYRUS: Best of Both Worlds Concert,' which debuted in theaters this weekend as the #1 film with a three-day total of $29 million, will now play extended engagements. The 3-D movie was originally scheduled to run for one week only, but MARK ZORADI, president of the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group, decided to lengthen the run given its popularity.
"Audience reaction for the Disney Digital 3-D presentation of 'Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert' has been so overwhelming that we've decided to extend the film's theatrical run," Zoradi said. "The extra playing time will give more fans a chance to see their favorite performer in an exciting new way that brings the concert experience to life on the big screen. It will also accommodate those fans who want to come and enjoy the experience again. Miley is clearly one of today's most exciting, talented and charismatic performers, and we're delighted that her fans are having such a great time with this entertaining and innovative 3-D adventure."
In other box office news, JESSICA ALBA's new thriller, 'The Eye,' debuted in second place, earning $13 million. The film, which stars Jessica as a woman whose eye transplant enables her to see beyond the natural world, co-stars ALESSANDRO NIVOLA and PARKER POSEY.
KATHERINE HEIGL's romantic comedy, '27 Dresses,' stayed strong in third, making another $8.4 million, while word-of-mouth-fueled teen pregnancy dramedy 'Juno' hopped back into the top five with $7.5 million. Spoof comedy 'Meet the Spartans' dropped to fifth with $7.1 million.
