More With Delta Burke on Her Depression

Earlier this month, ET reported that DELTA BURKE had checked herself into a psychiatric clinic to adjust the medication she takes for depression. Now, the "Designing Women" star sits down with MARK STEINES to set the record straight.

Delta explains that she had been on several medications -- five to be exact – and her doctor said that they had stopped working and she needed new medications. This after she couldn't get out of bed for two weeks. So she checked herself into the clinic to get herself back on track.

"I was a little scared," she admits. "I was going to see what the doctors were like. They were amazing. I was looking to get my meds straightened out and to get properly diagnosed."

After she checked in, she still had doubts. She remembers thinking, "Why is there no mirror in the bathroom? Why is it shiny steel? I willingly put myself in this situation for help. I love these doctors so much that I am now seeing them as an outpatient and working on all that I learned."

Delta tells Mark that she wouldn't be revealing this information on national television, but it is an issue that is important to her. To illustrate her point, she goes on to tell us about her darkest hour. It was during her "Designing Women" days. One night, she was parked in a car on top of a hill with a gun beside her and a bottle of the anti-anxiety drug Xanax®, trying to recover from the harsh words said in a tabloid magazine about her.

"I just kept taking Xanax and hoping the pain would stop," she recalls. "I got really sleepy and decided to go for a ride. I needed a Diet Coke really bad. I called up MAC [GERALD McRANEY]. I didn't know where I was but he found me."

Delta says that she didn't want to die. She just wanted the pain to stop. "The greatest moment of my life [being a 'Designing Woman'] brought me so much joy and everything I had ever wanted in this business and the damn press and what our world has turned into brought me the greatest pain. More than I can ever describe, but it didn't kill me. And I will always fight and everyone out there who battles this should always fight and never let it win. And never let them win."
