A new "Survivor" twist!
The tribe spoke on Thursday night in a shocker of a "Survivor" episode -- and physically strong JOEL was sent packing.
This week's episode saw the fans and the faves merged as new tribes were chosen. OZZY of the favorites became the first to choose teammates for the newly created Malakal tribe, while NATALIE of the fans was the first Airai tribe member.
In the end, Ozzy, Joel, AMANDA, ERIC, AMY, TRACY, CIRIE and CHET ended up in Malakal, while Natalie, JAMES, ALEXIS, JONATHAN, JASON, PARVATI, KATHY and ELIZA became Airai tribe members.
After team choosing, the new tribes dove into their first reward challenge immediately -- for the princely reward of a steak BBQ dinner, complete with wine. Two members of each team were tied together and had to catch a tied-together pair from the opposite team by chasing them through a maze.
After several players were injured in the process (including Jonathan who was later stitched up by a doctor on the beach) team Airai were named winners.
After the reward challenge, Airai was cooking their steaks at the beach previously occupied by the fans, when the ocean tide came up and put out their fire. The next morning the favorites in the Airai tribe led their new tribe to a safer beach area and the team built a better shelter together.
Meanwhile, over at the Malakal tribe, Amanda managed to wrestle a four-foot shark that had ended up in their net, and the team feasted on a seafood dinner.
After an immunity challenge that involved throwing rocks at tiles to release puzzle pieces -- again, Malakal was triumphant.
As Airai was faced with who to vote off, the obvious choice seemed to be Chet, who had fallen behind and been dragged through the mud and knocked into trees by partner Joel in the reward challenge. But Cirie, realizing that if the team started to vote off the physically weak she might be included in that group, campaigned to have Joel voted off, arguing that he did not break a single tile in the immunity challenge and pointing out that Chet would be easier to manipulate than Joel, since Joel seemed more invested in winning the game.
In a nail-biter of a tribal council, it was Joel, rather than Chet, who got the boot.
"Survivor Micronesia: Fans Vs. Favorites" airs on Thursday night at 8 p.m. on CBS.
