He's dreamy and a do-gooder!
Watching his mother cope with ovarian cancer inspired TV doc PATRICK DEMPSEY to help other patients and their families struggling with the disease. Today, he made a special visit to the Central Maine Medical Center to announce plans for the upcoming Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, according to multiple news outlets.
"For a family to get a cancer diagnosis is devastating, and all the information out there can be overwhelming," the "Grey's Anatomy" star, 42, told reporters. "So I talked to my sister about a place where people could go for all this type of information and help. Knowledge is power."
According to the hospital's Website, "The Dempsey Center's warm, inviting environment includes a cancer resource library replete with a dedicated computer station for patient/public use that allows internet access to virtual cancer resources. The Center includes an integrative medicine treatment room and dedicated space for cancer support group meetings and educational programs."
Patrick's mother, AMANDA, is now cancer-free and attended the press conference alongside her hunky son and Patrick's sister MARY, who works at the hospital, and will run the center when it opens on March 31. He was born in Lewiston, Maine, where it's located.
