Trying to step out of the shadow of a famous father is tough enough for anyone, but JAYCEE CHAN has the added pressure of proving himself not just as an accomplished actor -- but as the son of JACKIE CHAN!
The 25-year-old actor is starring in 'The Drummer' -- his fifth film -- a drama featured at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year -- and ET was with him as he snowboarded down the slopes of Park City, Utah!
In 'The Drummer,' Jaycee plays the conceited drummer of a Hong Kong rock band who finds himself in deep trouble after he beds the mistress of a mob boss. Forced into seclusion in rural Taiwan, he encounters a group of Zen Drummers who help him to change his life.
Fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, Jaycee speaks no English in 'The Drummer,' but there are subtitles. "It's about life," Jaycee tells ET. "Drumming is about sort of learning how to be yourself and how to drum, yet also how to live life."
Jaycee credits his famous father more for teaching him about making his way in the real world than for showing him how to emote onscreen. "He taught me more about life, and he would leave me by myself to learn how to act and all that," says Jaycee. "I mostly work with professionals … so I don't need his advice yet."
Although Jaycee says his dad taught him some martial arts as a kid ("I picked up a little, for defense."), he doesn't get to use any of those skills in the movie. "It's more like movements than martial arts. Just like moving action," he explains.
As for his dad's perspective, ET was with Jackie last year on the set of 'Rush Hour 3,' and the international star revealed that he was so busy with the day-to-day activities on the film that he almost forgot he has a family! "There's so many things to think [about], there's no time to let me think about my family, my son. I know they're living very beautiful. They're good, so that's why I'm not worried about it. They should worry about me!"
