It was 40 years ago today that Dr. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN.
In honor of the anniversary of his untimely passing, SAMUEL L. JACKSON has teamed up with the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis to give the site an extreme makeover -- and ET's KEVIN FRAZIER was there to help!
"We need somewhere that people can come and get emotionally connected to what happened," Sam tells Kevin. "I'm a firm believer of if you don't remember your history, you're doomed to repeat it."
The 'Soul Men' and 'Star Wars' prequels star was an usher at Dr. King's funeral and later marched for equal rights in Memphis. And with the help of over 100 volunteers working to help refresh and preserve the museum through the Hampton Hotels Save-A-Landmark program, Sam and Kevin painted the second-floor balcony railing right in front of room 306, where Dr. King met his untimely death.
