Everyone's favorite funnyman Tim Conway stirs things up on tonight's "30 Rock."
Nobody does comedy better these days than ALEC BALDWIN, who has won both a SAG Award and a Golden Globe for his role as Jack Donaghy on "30 Rock." But on tonight's episode, Alec goes up against the legendary TIM CONWAY -- and gets a few lessons from the master.
"I've known Alec for some time, so that was very comfortable," Tim says of working with Alec. "TINA [FEY] I had never met. She's probably the most talented lady outside of CAROL BURNETT that I've ever met. She writes, she reads, she walks, she talks -- she does everything. And she was so nice it's hard to believe that she's in show business really."
For his guest starring role on "30 Rock," Tim plays Bucky Bright, a TV star from the '40s and '50s, who shows up while Jack is trying to find a young, hip Republican celebrity for a JOHN McCAIN fundraiser. Jack rejects him as not hip enough, and turns him over to Kenneth (JACK McBRAYER), who is a fan of Bucky's, and offers to give him a tour of the studio.
"Ken, the young fellow who was assigned to me, was just delightful," Tim continues. Then he jokes, "Here is a young kid who has to haul this guy around and show him where things are, and he was just marvelous. I think we're going to get an apartment together. I'm not sure."
Tim plays Bucky as only he can play a character, although the twist is that Bucky is much more depraved than he would first appear, but that is what makes "30 Rock" the critically acclaimed show that it is.
Tim recalls, "I said, 'Do you want me to do the old man [a character he created on "The Carol Burnett Show"], or do you want me to...' 'No, just come in and do what you do. Just walk around and recall these memories.' It seemed to work at least for them and me."
Also, on tonight's show, Liz Lemon's (Fey) old boyfriend -- Dennis Duffy (guest star DEAN WINTERS) -- turns out to be New York's newest celebrity, "The Subway Hero," who jumped in front of a train to save a total stranger who had fallen on the tracks. Jack wants him booked on "TGS with Tracy Jordan," the show within the show on "30 Rock," but Liz is reluctant because she doesn't want Dennis back in her life.
"A lot of people refer to it as the 'Seinfeld' of tomorrow," Tim says of "30 Rock." "But it's the 'Seinfeld' of today. It's inside, but it's understandable. It is not complex; it is crazy. And it just seems to flow."
