A Los Angeles woman has been indicted for allegedly accepting money from a media outlet in exchange for hospital patients' private medical information.
The woman, LAWANDA JACKSON, 49, was indicted on April 9 and was an administrative specialist for UCLA Medical Center from 2006 to 2007. She is accused of receiving at least $4,600 from a media outlet in exchange for a celebrity patient's medical file. The check for the payment was allegedly written to her husband.
Jackson will be arraigned on June 9 on one count of illegally obtaining individually identifiable health information for commercial advantage, and could receive up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
