UMA THURMAN took the stand today against JACK JORDAN, the man accused of stalking her. According to her testimony, she felt sickened and terrified by the man accused of stalking her. She was further upset to discover that he'd been in contact with her parents.
"[My mother] said the person had called her in Woodstock and that he was supposed to be in a relationship with me and that he loved me," Thurman said. "He had threatened to commit suicide if he wasn't given access to me. I felt extremely upset because my elderly mother is alone at home and he (Jordan) was completely scary. I was upset. I thought it was a weird thing."
She also said the man approached her assistant on a movie set in 2005, saying he was a friend of her parents and wanted to say hello. She said Jordan then gave her assistant a card to give to Uma. "It didn't look right, it was very disturbing," she said. "I was completely freaked out. It was almost like a nightmare- scary."
She also testified about the letters Jordan allegedly sent her father. "He had all sorts of sick letters from him," she said. "It was frightening that someone is trying to commit an act of violence even if it is on himself. I also found it frightening that he even wrote down the names of my children. I didn't want any stranger to fixate on my children." She said she found it frightening that "he heard voices."
This morning the actress was escorted by officers through a side entrance of the NY State Supreme Court building, where the case is being heard. Wearing dark glasses, a long camel jacket and dark pants, she kept her head down and made no comment as she walked through a crowd of reporters.
The defendant is accused of following and trying to contact Thurman from early 2005 until late last year. He has pleaded not guilty.
Earlier this week, the actress' parents took the stand to testify about his contact with them over the years.
Her father, ROBERT, a professor of Tibetan studies at Columbia University, said that Jordan started writing to him in the winter of 2004-2005. He said that the man sent him emails that went on for "pages and pages" and the letters contained frightening language like "Today the center of my forehead is ticking. I feel in love with your daughter, Uma. Often lately, these thoughts include Uma and when I see her or hear her voice, I feel very much in love. Like she and I refound each other. I imagined us in a cave a long time ago."
In the e-mails, Jordan reportedly also spoke of suicide, writing things like, "There is a razor blade on my night stand and there are some moments when I am almost not too cowardly to use it."
Uma's mother, BIRGITTE, said on the stand that she had once received a phone call from Jordan in which he threatened to kill himself if she wouldn't pass on a message to Uma. Birgitte said that she urged Jordan to speak to his parents about his fixation with her daughter.
