Disney announced Tuesday that JAKE GYLLENHAAL has joined the cast of 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,' in which he'll co-star with British beauty GEMMA ARTERTON.

The JERRY BRUCKHEIMER-produced film, based on the popular video game and to be directed by MIKE NEWELL, will feature Jake as a prince who partners with a princess (Gemma) to stop an evil warlord from releasing the devastating world-domination tool, the "Sands of Time."

The film is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2009.
