Michelle returned to the red carpet for the first time since Heath's death.

MICHELLE WILLIAMS celebrated the Cannes premiere of her dramedy 'Synecdoche, New York' along with costars PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN and CATHERINE KEENER (pictured above) on Friday.

And while attending a private party thrown in honor of the film at a villa nestled within the French hills, she ran into BRAD PITT, People magazine reports.

The two enjoyed a brief, friendly chat beside the crackle of a fire. And according to the mag, Pitt drank champagne and talked for an hour with his old friend Keener, with whom he shared cell phone pics of his children.

Williams arrived in Cannes on Thursday for the premiere of her other new movie, 'Wendy and Lucy.' The outing marked the first time that she walked the red carpet since the January death of acclaimed actor HEATH LEDGER, her ex-boyfriend and the father of her toddler, MATILDA.
