SALLY FIELD won an Emmy for her performance in "Sybil," a TV movie based on the eponymous book by FLORA RHETA SCHREIBER. On Saturday, June 7, CBS will air an updated version of the real life of the woman we know as Sybil, who created 16 other personalities to deal with the pain caused by the abuse she experienced at the hands of her mother throughout her childhood.
"You think it's not possible, that this kind of abuse could go on in a small town like that and nobody noticed? Nobody noticed? The doctor didn't notice? The father didn't notice? It's insanity," says JESSICA LANGE, who plays Dr. CORNELIA WILBUR, the role previously played by JOANNE WOODWARD, who helps Sybil combine her multiple personalities and become a functional adult.
TAMMY BLANCHARD, who won an Emmy for her work in "Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows," takes over the role of Sybil.
"I am completely exhausted," Tammy tells ET of her multi-character role. "My emotions run dry by the end of the day. I have to go home, close my eyes and say a prayer and hope I can start the next day."
Tammy attributes a portion of her success at creating 16 different personalities to JOSEPH SARGENT, her director on the project.
"He was very helpful by telling me to create the memories each personality has and, with that in mind, it is easy to connect to each personality," the former "Guiding Light" star explains.
"Sybil" premieres Saturday, June 7 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
