The field is down to the final nine suitors as Richard Mathy talks to ET about his pruning in the last "The Bachelorette" rose ceremony.
At last Monday night's rose ceremony, RICHARD MATHY, a 27-year-old science teacher from Binghamton, New York, was given a pass by this season's "The Bachelorette," DeANNA PAPPAS because, as she told Richard, she didn't feel there was any romance between the two of them.
"It was like watching a really bad horror flick," Richard said in a press conference, following the Monday night airing of the show. "You knew that the guy should not go in the basement and he just goes in the basement anyways. And he still acts surprised when he gets killed.
"In hindsight ... you're like, 'Wow, there really wasn't that much of a connection there on both of our parts.'"
Because of a morality clause in his teaching contract, Richard did have to get permission from his superintendent in order to appear on the dating series, so, he admits to being concerned about public displays of affection.
"The more I got going with the show, the less I really thought about it, I guess you could say," he tells ET. "I guess that's just the nature of the cameras always being around me and always being in that situation. You kind of start thinking less and less about regular life and more and more about the life that you're living right at the moment.
"But I knew if I just stayed true to myself that I really wouldn't have to worry about too much coming out, I guess you could say, that wouldn't normally be out in my classes."
Richard is not currently dating anyone, but jokes, "I hear CARRIE UNDERWOOD is single so that's good; if anybody knows her number and wants to send that my way that's cool. Just really got to get my kids' tests here; end of the year exams right now."
DeAnna will continue her search for the perfect mate on Monday night's new episode of the "The Bachelorette," airing at 8 p.m. on ABC.
