What is Jack Jordan doing in the Big Apple?

The man convicted of stalking UMA THURMAN was spotted roaming the streets of NYC on Friday, despite the fact that he wasn't expected in the Big Apple.

"We were looking for him yesterday. If we find him we're telling him he needs to go back to Maryland -- they are handling his case," a spokesman for NY's Department of Probation tells ET.

According to the New York Post, JACK JORDAN showed up across the street from the Manhattan courthouse where he was sentenced on Monday to three years probation for aggravated harassment. Five days later, his face appeared stubbly, and he sported the same shirt and fleece he wore to that hearing; he walked off when reporters questioned him.

"We're looking for him, and if we find him, we'll tell him he needs to go back to Maryland right away," JACK RYAN of the NY Probation Department told the Post.

Ryan told the Post that Jordan's case has been transferred to Maryland authorities, adding that the convicted stalker's unexpected return to NY might not technically violate the terms of his release.

At Monday's sentencing, however, Judge GREGORY CARRO ordered the 37-year-old to stay at his parents' Maryland house and seek outpatient psychiatric treatment.

Still, Jordan may have returned to NY only to try and recover personal items seized from him by the NYPD at the time of his arrest, his lawyer told the Post.

"There's nothing illegal about that," GEORGE VOMVOLAKIS said. "He hasn't been given any orders to stay away from New York or not travel."

A publicist for Thurman said the actress declined comment on this latest development. On Monday, Judge Carro issued a five-year order of protection stating that Jordan cannot go near Thurman or her family. The 'Kill Bill' beauty is currently in Europe filming a movie, NY's Daily News reports.
