"The 62nd Annual Tony Awards" took place on Sunday -- and ET was on the red carpet and behind the scenes at Radio City Music Hall in New York City for all the gossip and glamour from the prestigious event. Many stars also spoke out on the sad loss of newsman TIM RUSSERT.
"The View"'s WHOOPI GOLDBERG, a Tony Award-winner, hosted the occasion, which acknowledges the best and brightest performances on Broadway. She was joined onstage by ALEC BALDWIN, KRISTIN CHENOWETH, GLENN CLOSE, RICHARD GRIFFITHS, LAURA LINNEY, JOHN LITHGOW, LIZA MINNELLI, MARY-LOUISE PARKER, BROOKE SHIELDS and MARISA TOMEI, among others.
'Harry Potter''s DANIEL RADCLIFFE came all the way from across the pond for the event, telling us, "In London, you're a million miles away from the glamour of Broadway, and Broadway's a generally glamorous place!"
"In the Heights," a rousing romp through Manhattan's Latino culture, won best musical, while "August: Osage County," the story of a troubled Oklahoma family, took home best play. "South Pacific," a musical about two couples living on an island in the shadow of WWII, was the big winner of the night, picking up seven awards total, including best revival musical, best actor in a musical (PAULO SZOT) and best director of a musical (BARTLETT SHER).
MARK RYLANCE got the best actor-play nod for his role in the airline comedy "Boeing, Beoing" (which also stars GINA GERSHON and MARY McCORMACK), and "August"'s DEANNA DUNAGAN won best actress-play honors. PATTI LuPONE was named best actress in a musical for "Gypsy."
