Recently hospitalized after fainting spell.

The father of British singer AMY WINEHOUSE says his daughter is suffering from the lung disease emphysema and doctors have warned she could die if she continues smoking cigarettes and drugs, Reuters reports.

MITCH WINEHOUSE said his 24-year-old daughter was diagnosed with the illness, which clogs the lungs and leaves sufferers short of breath, when she was recently hospitalized and underwent a series of medical tests.

"The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs, it won't just ruin her voice, it will kill her," Reuters quotes her father as telling London's Sunday Mirror.

Her father said Amy's frequent smoking of drugs and cigarettes has resulted in a 30 percent reduction in her lung capacity. "If she doesn't go back to drugs, then she can lead this magnificent life," he said. "We are praying that that's what Amy really wants. She seems resolute."

Calls to the singer's representative for comment and/or confirmation were not immediately returned.
