Minutes before D.L. Hughley hit the stage for a stand-up gig at Hilarities Theatre in Cleveland, ET caught up with the funnyman for his take on the recent controversy involving Jesse Jackson making rude comments about Barack Obama. Did D.L. have a strong opinion about the news? You bet!

"I think Jesse's gig is to make people victims so he can be the hero," he told ET.

"People are often snide behind people's backs. Any of us can get caught with the microphone on," he added, alluding to Jackson being unaware during a break in a TV interview that his mike was recording him as he bashed the Democratic presidential candidate.

Most amusing to comedy king D.L. was that Jackson would issue a public apology for simply getting caught speaking his mind.

"I think that the apology was the funniest thing," he said. "Jesse Jackson basically apologized for the microphone being on."
