ET has Christian Bale's first comments on his mom and sister's alleged assault allegations. In a press conference today in Barcelona, he said it's a "deeply personal matter."

But was the alleged family feud over cash?

A new bombshell report in today's Daily Mail says the alleged altercation was over money.

The Daily Mail claims his sister Sharon Bale asked her brother for $200,000 to help raise her three children. Christian allegedly was not keen on the idea, sparking the alleged argument between Bale and his family.

A source told the British paper, "Things just got out of control and he now says he wishes he just left the room. Normally Christian would just call a friend and go out to a pub to cool off. ... But he was literally trapped by an army of paparazzi and fans outside."

Christian has denied the assault claim.
