'The Family That Preys' is the newest big-screen endeavor from filmmaker Tyler Perry, with an ensemble cast that includes Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard, Sanaa Lathan, Cole Hauser and Rockmond Dunbar -- and now ET puts the spotlight on the men of the movie!
"An ensemble cast is great because I can tell so many stories," says Tyler. "And it's a wonderful way to work when you have the right chemistry."
In theaters September 12, the film follows two very different families torn apart by greed and scandal. Bates and Woodard play the matriarchs of the families whose long-lasting friendship is put into turmoil when their adult children's extramarital affairs and unethical business practices threaten to unravel the lives of all involved.
Lathan, who plays Woodard's daughter, and Hauser, who plays Bates' son, are the ones engaging in an illicit affair.
"There's a love between us and a connection," explains Hauser. "We've fought to have that."
"[Hauser] plays a bad guy, but he's not in real life; he's a sweetheart," says Lathan.
And Dunbar plays Lathan's husband and Tyler's best friend who is left in the dust by the affair.
"My wife is an adultress, but I love her anyway; there are points where it pulsates until it explodes," explains Rockmond. "This is really about relationships and family and what money does to people. I think we all have to deal with that."
Quite different from the family comedies Tyler is famous for -- such as 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman' and 'Meet the Browns' -- 'The Family That Preys' marks a serious departure for the movie mogul.
"This is a different kind of movie for me; I'm taking a couple of risks in this one -- I'm pressing the button a little bit," says Tyler. "I cannot wait for people to see this movie."
