Alfre Woodard and Kathy Bates play old friends and the matriarchs of two families that clash in the new drama by Tyler Perry, 'The Family That Preys,' in theaters September 12 -- and tonight on ET, we meet the ladies of the movie!
"They do prey on one another for their own gain and their own advantage," confirms Kathy. "Some in benign ways and some in destructive ways."
Kathy plays a Donald Trump-style developer, while Alfre only runs a diner. As longtime friends, the families share everything, but soon their adult children's extramarital affairs, unethical business practices and a dark paternity secret threaten to unravel their close-knit relationship.
As the tension grows in the movie, Charlotte and Alice decide to go on a road trip -- 'Thelma and Louise' style -- to get away from it all and reconnect. During their adventure, they hit strip clubs and meet men!
"Alice has never been anywhere," says Alfre. "She's been afraid to go anywhere and she has just put everyone else ahead of her."
Sanaa Lathan plays Alfre's daughter, who has an illicit affair with Kathy's onscreen son, played by Cole Hauser.
"She has her reasons," explains Sanaa. "She's not happy in the life she comes from and she's trying to get to a better life for herself."
Meanwhile, Taraji P. Henson plays the working-class sister married to a construction worker, played by Tyler.
"Sanaa is the wicked sister and I am the good angel sister," says Taraji with a smile, adding, "I had to wear these really tall heels because [Tyler's] so tall -- or else my head would get chopped off with the [camera] frame."
